Mark A. Smith

Mark A. Smith is an award-winning children's author who grew up thinking he was destined to become a superhero. He ended up becoming a writer and a Primary School teacher instead, which is probably the next best thing.

His first novel for children, Slugboy Saves the World, won the Kelpies Prize and was nominated for several other awards. It was also named one of the top 12 Great Scottish Children’s Books of the Year (8-11) by the Scottish Book Trust, which was nice.

When he isn’t busy writing over-the-top adventures, Mark loves visiting schools, libraries and bookshops to deliver exciting, energetic, interactive events, with lots of laughs, fun and games, storytelling - and even a wee bit of singing! He’s also written pictures books and scripted several comics over the years, featuring some seriously silly superheroes, a bunch of bewildered robots and a talking hedgehog called Henry.

Mark writes funny, fast-paced, action-packed books, because he wants to get children laughing and feeling excited about reading. He lives in the magical Kingdom of Fife, in Scotland, with his wonderful wife, their two fabulous children - and a really big collection of superhero comics.
