Barbara Henderson

Barbara is a children's novelist and a playwright as well as an English and Drama teacher. All these areas of her life feed into one another, fuelling her creativity and enthusiasm for stories. Originally from Germany, Barbara now holds dual citizenship and has lived in Scotland for 30 years. Her novels, published amongst others by the critically acclaimed Cranachan Publishing, are inspired by the wealth of history and the stunning scenery of the Highlands which she calls home.

She writes a regular arts column in six large regional newspapers in the North of Scotland and visits over 50 schools a year with her books, where she inspires children with a love of drama and story.

Her latest works for children are drawn from her experiences in wildlife conservation, and her love of cooking! She brings huge energy to the agency - and the ability to spot stories everywhere.

Barbara has won the Young Quills Award from the Historical Association for both The Siege of Caerlaverock and The Chessmen Thief in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
